About Face!!

There are so many updates to write about this week! We'll go ahead and start with the beginning of our trip to the farm last week. We got about 50 minutes from home when poor Miss Mouse woke up with tooth pain. We stopped at the first gas station we came to, and I thought perhaps getting out to walk around and play a bit would help. It did not. She wanted to cling to her Mommy Mouse and was absolutely not interested in being put down for one minute! So, we cuddled in the car for quite a long while. It soon became apparent that there was no way Miss Mouse would be returning to the rear-facing car seat in which she had ridden thus far. Thus, Mommy Mouse dug out the instruction manual and proceeded to try to read the instructions for installing the car seat forward-facing all the while tending to poor Miss Mouse who sobbed whenever she was put down to stand on the car floor. There were buttons to push, belts to loosen, clips to install...by the time it was finished, both Mommy and Miss Mouse were sweating and in tears. Mommy Mouse called Daddy Mouse, who was not able to answer his cell phone; she then called Grammy Mouse who was able to answer hers. With a small pep talk, Mommy Mouse was under control and was able to find little Miss Mouse her handkerchief (from Great Grandma N.), her clove oil, and her precious Hyland's teething tablets. After a dose of each of those, Miss Mouse was calm and ready to try out the newly positioned seating arrangement. It worked marvelously! With a bit of stretching, it was possible for Mommy Mouse to entertain Miss Mouse by pressing the car light on and off. We made it to the halfway point of our journey with no more tears! At the halfway point, we visited Great Grandpa and Great Grandma L. and were then picked up by Great Auntie Linda for shuttling to our next destination where we would meet Grandpa Bob and Grammy who would bring us to the farm. By the end of the trip, Mommy Mouse was proficient at switching the car seat from rear to forward facing and from car to car. Thank goodness Auntie Steph visited last week and helped Mommy Mouse find an 'official' scale on which to weigh Miss Mouse. She is 20 pounds and 1/2 an ounce - so if she eats breakfast she can face forward (the requirement is 1 year and 20 pounds). We had intended to wait another month to switch her, but necessity told me otherwise on the trip to the farm!

More updates coming soon!!!
